Project Information

The annual Inter-Island Environment Meetings (IIEMs) are a 2-3 day collaborative gathering that bring together representatives from different islands to discuss shared environmental challenges and sustainable development strategies. This conference focuses on issues such as biodiversity conservation, land management, climate resilience, and biological data collection for informed decision-making. By sharing knowledge, best practices, and local innovations and celebrating successes, the conferences aim to strengthen regional cooperation and promote sustainable island living.

The IIEM celebrated 25 years in the Isle of Man in 2025, and will be hosted in Guernsey in 2026.

The 2026 IIEM will include 2 conference days, incorporating a field excursion to Guernsey's first Ramsar site designation, and a third day of school presentations, encouraging the next generation of environmental leaders.

Funding needed

There are several cost aspects to organising a conference such as the IIEM over 3 days, including:

  • venue rental
  • hire and use of audio visual equipment
  • catering
  • event management
  • printing and materials
  • workshops and field visits
  • marketing and communications

It is also recommended that a contingency of 10% should be allowed for.

Taking all this into account, it is anticipated that the cost of the 2026 IIEM will be approximately £30,000.
