Skills needed by local environmental charities

Data analysis and Visualisation of People & Nature Survey data

Every 18months, the Nature Commission runs its People & Nature Survey to find out how people in Guernsey connect with the natural world around them. This annual snapshot reveals how our community enjoys local green spaces and wildlife — and importantly, what might be holding people back from spending more time in nature.

We need help to analyse and visualise the data, so that the results of the survey can be accurately communicated.

The Nature Commission is a Guernsey charity that works with business, government, the third sector, and the public to enhance the Island's natural environment and promote greater native biodiversity. In particular, the Nature Commission is working to reverse the decline in biodiversity by protecting and enhancing Guernsey's natural environment for the health of our economy and well-being of our island community.

Skillset Needed

A People & Nature Survey, released every 18 months, will improve what we know about how people access, understand, and enjoy our local natural environment. By analysing the results of each survey, any barriers to connecting with nature can be understood and acted upon.

The Nature Commission has recently released the Channel Islands first People & Nature survey, which closes on Sunday 23rd November 2025, after which we would like to be able to analyse and share the narrative of the data. Below are some ideas of what could be included in that (and we are open to more/ other ideas!):

  • Count and summary statistics, with some statistical analysis where the data allows
  • A high-level short, static report which can be made available on the Nature Commission website for users to look through for all the information from the survey, and which visualises the data, and which can be used for future survey years to show trends between years.
  • A selection of interactive graphs which can be embedded into the Nature Commission website, showing patterns within and between demographics for individual questions as well as across multiple questions (to visualise correlation)
  • Scripted code which can be used once the survey has been conducted a few times, so that changes over time can be visualised and added into the interactive visualizations and short report.

Timeframe/ Time Commitment

The People & Nature Survey closes on Sunday 23rd November 2025, after which an xlsx will be available with the anonymised responses.

The plan is for the analysed results and outputs to be available before the end of Q1 2026, for release and promotion in April 2026.

There is flexibility for you to deliver within this timeframe, and a Nature Commission staff member will be available as needed to run any clarifications/ checks past.

In return for your skills, you would receive...

  • Public recognition and visibility for your [organisation’s] contribution, including attribution in media releases, campaign communications, and social media content.
  • Brand exposure through logo placement on publicly shared project materials, reports, and promotional assets (where appropriate).

  • A marketing-ready case study, enabling your organisation to showcase the partnership, outcomes, and impact across your own channels.

  • Verified volunteer hours that can be included in internal impact, CSR, or ESG reporting.
