Summer Internship 2026
The Guernsey Nature Commission is once again on the lookout for an Assistant Ecologist Intern for the summer! We are thrilled to be offering this popular programme for the third year running, and this year we are excited to have two intern positions available! Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Lions Club of Guernsey, we can offer two paid internships with the Nature Commission in 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals studying an environmental degree, or who have already graduated and are looking for some work experience, or who have experience in ecology locally and would like to put that learning into practice.
The Nature Commission has several workstreams, including environmental education programmes, public outreach and engagement, partnerships and collaboration, and building the ecological evidence-base and associated baseline. The Assistant Ecologist Interns will support the Nature Commission Ecologist on these workstreams, with input and support from the CEO and the Head of Education and Operations.
Key areas of work will include ecology and data collection, record keeping and administration, and public and stakeholder engagement, with lots of variety in between.
Last year’s intern, Karla, said "I’ve loved getting stuck into all things fungi, lichen and moss - creating spotter sheets and helping out with fungi walks, as well as writing a Fungi Matters article. I’ve also enjoyed contributing to a range of citizen science projects, from the Big Butterfly Count to a small mammals project. I got really into using iRecord, logging lots of fungi, and learning more about our island’s biodiversity. I’m excited to keep recording and volunteering as a citizen scientist in the year ahead. Thank you again to everyone at the Nature Commission for your support and guidance. It’s been such a fab experience!"
If you are passionate about the conservation and enhancement of Guernsey’s natural environment, we would love to hear from you! The closing date for applications is Friday 5th June 2026.
