Originally established in 2017, the Guernsey Biodiversity Partnership Group (BPG) acts as an advisory panel to the States of Guernsey and the Guernsey Nature Commission on the delivery and direction of the Strategy for Nature, and challenge, support, and deliver the Strategy for Nature. BPG includes representatives from the environmental organisations across Guernsey, as well as representatives from the Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Business Initiative and the States of Guernsey. BPG is chaired and administered by the Guernsey Nature Commission.

Project Information

The Strategy for Nature provides the structure for a locally relevant and fit-for-purpose Action Plan to be developed and implemented. A Nature Action Plan will turn long-term goals into practical and deliverable activity and should include mechanisms to horizon scan and should monitor and proactively address the pressures facing nature locally. The Strategy notes that the availability of skills resources in Guernsey is a weak link, and maintaining and developing technical specialist skills within the community is essential and is key to the Action Plan.

Funding needed

It is anticipated that it will cost approx.£4,000 to develop a Nature Action Plan, and then £7,000 per year to ensure it is implemented in full, driven by the Biodiversity Partnership Group.

Many existing areas of work will contribute to implementation of a Nature Action Plan, meaning that some of this important work is already underway. However, clarity of direction is needed to ensure the goals in guernsey's Strategy for Nature are achieved.
